Colorado Maker Hub visits Portlandia Hackerspace
Travels with Karen: Whenever I travel, I naturally gravitate towards the maker organizations and communities in the area to see the goings on in other parts of the country. Recently, I found myself in Portland, OR and met up with some cool folks at PDX Hackerspace AKA Crtl-H just north of downtown.
The space is fairly new in Hackerspace world, however the story goes back to 2007, when the building was purchased for specific use as a Hackerspace. Though the community was there, the building sat vacant for several years before being able to be built out. And PDX Hackerspace was born in 2014 and they are already busting at the seems!
The space has a unique feature that I haven’t seen in other spaces. A large grassy and gravel back yard where members build larger installations such as a Tiny Home! The space also has separate areas for ceramics, virtual reality games complete with padded floor, electronics room, laser cutter area, 3D printers, machine shop and of course, the large outdoor space.
If you’re in the area, checkout Meetup for a full list of PDX Hackerspace meetups and be sure to stop by!
