Rocky Mountain Makerspace Summit

Rocky Mountain Makerspace Summit is a collaborative conference focused on enabling economic development, skills development and creative fun in communities through makerspaces.

Join us for the Rocky Mountain Makerspace Summit in Colorado Springs on July 14th-16th, 2017!

Last year’s first gathering of the tribes was a fantastic experience. New and seasoned leaders attended to network, collaborate on programs, share best practices, enjoy mutual war stories and tour creative spots in Colorado Springs. Coming out of the event we have been creating a makerspace passport program, an ongoing communications channel on slack to support each other, workforce training and outreach programs, joint fundraising efforts and further opportunities to collaborate and get together. Don’t miss our 2017 Summit!

In the afternoon of Friday, July 14th, we’ll hold a hands-on Maker Cities Keynote and Workshop bringing makers, makerspaces, educators, politicians, manufacturers, industry leaders, museums, libraries, and anyone who is part of the maker ecosystem to learn about each other, talk about partnerships & the problems that we all run into, and discuss how to leverage the maker movement to create thriving Maker Cities. If you haven’t had a chance yet, read the Maker Cities e-book, a practical guide to reinventing our cities. Joining us will be Dorothy Jones-Davis, Executive Director of the Nation of Makers, and Bernie Lynch, Executive Director of Made Right Here, to talk about programs they’ve grown under a grant from the US Department of Labor for workforce development in makerspaces. Friday will be a unique opportunity for leaders across the maker ecosystem to work together in leveraging makerspaces, creative districts, small business and economic development initiatives to strengthen making across the Rocky Mountain Region.

Saturday and Sunday is a gathering of the global makerspace community to discuss topics such as RFID tracking, makerspace IoT, an ambassador program between makerspaces, membership practices and more. While the highlight of the weekend will be the time spent learning from each other, we will also be pleased to have special presentations including Keynote speakers in innovation and making. Saturday sessions will be located in the Venue at Library21c and on Sunday we will gather at a creative space to guide your own learning with others in an informal format.
There were be multiple opportunities to network during the Summit, but we are organizing two evening events to get out and have some fun together. Friday evening we will have a fun happy hour including an Art Walk with maker creatives hosted by the Colorado Springs Downtown Partnership. The Art Walk will be ticketed separately at $25 per person and also available to non-Summit attendees. On Saturday evening the Manitou Art Center will host us in their space with a Barbeque Dinner. The dinner will be included in the price of a weekend Summit ticket.

Friday and Sunday morning we are investigating options for Tours/Workshops that can be offered to Summit attendees. Pikes Peak Makerspace and SparkFun have currently showed interest in providing a session for Summit attendees. When you register for your Summit ticket, please indicate your interest in these sessions for Friday morning and / or Sunday morning. We will contact those that have indicated interest, when a schedule of tours / workshops have been confirmed. We will give preference in tours based on when individuals have registered for the full weekend Summit.

Thanks to the support of the Pikes Peak Library District, presenters volunteering their time, and Colorado Maker Hub volunteers, we are able to offer this weekend Summit with ticket prices ranging from $30 to $65. Make sure to get your tickets! We will give preference in tours based on when individuals have registered for the full weekend Summit. Show your support for this community by sponsoring the opening reception, weekend lunches or dinner. Click on the tickets link and choose a sponsor ticket.

Keep checking back here for more information as the conference agenda develops. This is your event! Please let us know if there are any topic areas you’d particularly like to see discussed, and if you would be interested in sharing your expertise in leading a session.
We look forward to seeing you at the Summit!
