Community Interviews Coordinator
In March the Hub initiated a Community Interview Project led by Judy Murdoch to begin in-person or phone interviews with individuals in the community. This specific project will be wrapped up by the end of May as a first assessment in our direction, but the Hub would like to continue efforts in gathering feedback and suggestions from the community throughout the year as we define the Hub. We welcome others to come onboard in gathering the feedback and suggestions from in-person or phone interviews throughout the year. This role should be in collaboration with the appropriate Regional Community Lead and attend the Community Connect in their area. The same individual could also be a Freelance Journalist on the team that is willing to write Hub articles on trends they are seeing in the maker community. This type of feedback coming into the Hub will be critical as we define the Program Services provided by the Hub.
Community Connect Host
We know makers and maker organizations are busy! We also know that we all love to connect in-person for some fun and see what each other are doing. So between mid-July through September, we are asking for different organizations with space to host a Community Connect for their region. Our intent would be to have all of our Community Connects completed before we head into our October Making in Colorado promotion. We are open to where across Colorado they are held but we would like to ensure coverage across Colorado. Our goal is to host at least 5 Community Connects this year. Minimum expectations as a host are that a group of 20-40 community members can meet for 3 hours in the host’s location, preferably Saturday morning or afternoon, and that food is available. As an extra, hosts can help coordinate additional visits to other maker programs in the area available that same weekend. A template for the three hour session Community Connect session will be provided by the Hub’s Program Services Lead and can be adjusted as needed in collaboration with the host.
Program Services Lead
As feedback and suggestions are coming in via the Community Interviews Coordinator(s) and other channels, the Program Services Lead will aggregate the information as a set of Hub services. Other channels for input are our online forum posts, feedback received through Contact Us, online Video Conference sessions, Community Connects, team members and Board members. The Program Services Lead should be in frequent contact with the Member Directory Coordinator to see how the service is being received, how well it is performing and collaborate with the Technology Lead on what improvements should be made. Once Program Services are defined either as a whole or in phases, the Lead will define an implementation plan for each of the Program Services. The Program Services Lead will be responsible for coordinating all of our member services. This includes Community Connects, the public member directory, the online collaboration channels (e.g. BuddyPress forums/groups) and any future services (e.g. monthly Video Conferences).
Regional Community Lead
The team of the Hub and interactions with the Hub should not be in one physical location in Colorado. We should have representation and represent all of Colorado. To this point, we would like to have individuals willing to be Regional Community Leads. A regional community lead is the voice of the maker community in their region in that they provide input to the Hub on who, what and where making is happening in their region. These individuals should submit leads on individuals or organizations that are involved in their region. They will then follow-up with these leads to see if the individual or organization are wanting to be members and be listed in the public member directory. This input helps the Hub in aggregating, marketing and communicating the making happen across Colorado. The Regional Community Leads provides feedback, suggestions and input from their community on what provides value to their region in the Hub’s program services. The Regional Community Lead will be a go to person for their region for other team roles such as the Program Services Lead, Community Interviews Coordinators, Community Membership Lead, Marketing & Communications, etc. We would like to have at least 5 Regional Community Leads to cover the breadth of Colorado.
Member Directory Coordinator
One of the services the Hub is committed to is providing a public directory of members on our website. This public member directory will be key in helping market and communicate all the ‘Making in Colorado’, especially in October as we will be promoting ‘Making in Colorado’ for the community and pointing interested parties to the Hub’s website for more information. To make sure the members get the full benefit of this public member directory we feel the need to have an individual focused on working with members to ensure their directory profile is filled out, accurate and ready to go. The Member Directory Coordinator will be responsible in providing information and updates about members to the Community Membership Lead and Regional Community Lead. This individual should be detailed oriented, tech-saavy as most of the information is online and will work with the Technology Lead when issues arise. Current technologies that are in use are CiviCRM, WordPress and BuddyPress. If unfamiliar with these technologies, the Hub is willing to provide training.
Community Membership Lead
This individual will coordinate and lead the membership status with the Regional Community Leads and the Member Directory Coordinator. This lead will help in making sure all of our members are getting the services they are expecting and resolves any issues. The Hub would like to be representative of the diversity in making and programs that support making, therefore the Community Membership Lead will be looking for gaps in our membership and identify ways to be inclusive of the full extent of the Colorado maker community.
Digital Marketing Lead
It’s all about getting the word out about the Colorado Maker Hub, Making in Colorado and the member community using social media, online ads and search engine optimizations (SEO). This role is led by the Marketing & Communications Lead on approaches, strategy and timing as a coordinated effort. Must be tech-saavy in SEO tools (such as Yoast in WordPress), Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google AdWords.
Freelance Journalist
There is a lot of Making in Colorado to be shared with others either in the maker community or to the general public to show the value of a maker-mindset. We invite many different Freelance Journalists to come on board and work with our Marketing & Communications Lead while getting a post publicized on the Hub. In addition to writing about the general trends of Making in Colorado, we see a value-add of these journalists to individual makers or maker organizations themselves. We encourage Freelance Journalists that have made connections with individual makers or maker organizations to continue their relationships in helping promote them in their own channels.
Marketing & Communications Lead
Lead the Hub’s Marketing & Communications from the strategy, implementation approaches and timing as a coordinated effort across digital and print channels. You are the editor of our Community News and Making in Colorado newsletters. This role leads our October Month of Making in Colorado to be submitted and promoted as a Governor’s Proclamation in both digital and print channels. Marketing should not all be digital and thus awareness of cost-effective print channels is a plus. Coordinates efforts of Digital Marketing Lead, Freelance Journalists and pulls in Digital Graphic Artists and Technology Lead as needed for publications.
Digital Graphic Artist
Be the guru of digital art and the graphics for the Hub in either digital and in print mediums. The Hub is here for the member community and to promote Making in Colorado and…the Digital Graphic Artist is there to make us all look great! Responsibilities include helping members put their digital signature credits on the photos they are allowing us to use, providing a consistent, theme across platforms and coming up with creative digital art for promotions and publications. This role is coordinated by the Technology Lead, but there are frequent interactions with the Marketing & Communications Lead.
Tech Contributor
With so many technologies and everyone’s available we are open to multiple Technology Contributors coming on board coordinated by the Hub’s Technology Lead. If you are skilled in a technology and willing to jump in as needed, please let us know. If you are not-so-skilled, but willing to learn and get’er done as requested, let us know your interest and just be honest about your skill level. Current technologies that we have in use are WordPress, CiviCRM, BuddyPress, bbPress, Mosaico, Twitter, Facebook and server technologies such as Apache, SQL and PHP. We do plan on implementing some information search engines and data analysis sometime in the future.
Technology Lead
Assess needs of the Hub then adjusts current technology as first priority. If needs are no direct fit with current technology then looks for the longer-term solutions and proposes options for a transition or integration with the current technology. The Technology Lead coordinates efforts of Digital Graphic Artist and Tech Contributors with other Hub Leads.
Funding Campaign Lead
Since we just spun off as our own non-profit in January 2018, campaign funding will be focused on rolling out basic infrastructure operations and, if possible for the first year or two, as a stretch goal to reward team members. A critical responsibility of the Funding Campaign Lead in this first year will be to define our funding model and validate the model.
Accountant
Keeps the books! The Hub should not be an asset heavy business, but of concern will be accurate record keeping of membership dues, public support and contributions. May have to consider record keeping of in-kind contributions and partnership exchanges.
Legal Counsel
Provides counsel directly for Hub operations and liabilities as the Hub establishes any partnerships, funding distributions or grants.
